#051: Comparing 3 Types of Data Modeling

Sep 13, 2023

Without a solid data modeling approach, most architectures fall apart.

And in a previous video I broke down five of the most common data modeling strategies you'll see in a modern stack.

But today we'll look at little more into three of the most common examples which include:

  1. Normalized
  2. Star schema
  3. Data Vault

But rather than going deep into code, instead we'll review some images (that I found in a simple Google search) of what some example table/relationship designs can look like in each approach.

It's nothing crazy and just a quick overview. But my hope is by giving this level of example will help get the point across a little better and clear up any gaps that you may be having after watching the last video.

What will you learn?

  • Example designs of Normalized & Star Schema
  • Subtle differences between each approach
  • Why DataVault tends to be most helpful for logging

Enjoy!
